Dallas Mavericks Reach Western Conference Finals
Mavs Close Out Thunder in Game 6
Dallas Storms Back Late to Advance
The Dallas Mavericks are headed to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of their second-round series. Led by Luka Doncic's 24 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks, the Mavericks closed out the series with a 113-101 victory.
The Thunder led for much of the game, but the Mavericks rallied in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. With less than two minutes remaining, PJ Washington hit two clutch free throws to give the Mavericks a four-point lead. The Thunder had a chance to tie the game, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's three-point attempt bounced off the rim as time expired.
Doncic was the star of the game for the Mavericks, but he got plenty of help from his teammates. Jalen Brunson added 19 points, and Christian Wood contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Mavericks also shot the ball well from three-point range, hitting 13-of-31 (41.9%) from beyond the arc.
The Thunder were led by Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 24 points. Josh Giddey added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Lu Dort scored 15 points. However, the Thunder shot just 27.9% from three-point range and couldn't keep up with the Mavericks' hot shooting in the fourth quarter.
With the win, the Mavericks advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011. They will face the Phoenix Suns, who defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs last year.
