Max Verstappen wins the inaugural Miami Grand Prix
Verstappen scored an additional point for setting the fastest lap of the race.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing won the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship. Verstappen started the race in third place, but he quickly moved up to second place after passing Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. on the opening lap. Verstappen then closed in on the race leader, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, and passed him for the lead on Lap 9. Verstappen led the rest of the race to take his third win of the season.
Leclerc finished in second place, and Sainz finished in third place. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, finished in fourth place, and Mercedes’ George Russell finished in fifth place. Verstappen’s win extends his lead in the drivers’ championship standings to 27 points over Leclerc.
The Miami Grand Prix was a thrilling race from start to finish. Verstappen and Leclerc battled for the lead throughout the race, and there were several other close battles throughout the field. The race was also marred by two safety car periods, but Verstappen was able to maintain his lead both times. In the end, Verstappen was the deserving winner of the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.
