Rwandan Government Rejects US Calls for Withdrawal

Continued Conflict and Call for Long-Term Solutions

Rwanda's Foreign Ministry Defends Actions

The Rwandan government has rejected calls from the United States to withdraw its troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The conflict, which began in April 2022, has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

The Rwandan foreign ministry released a statement on Monday, saying that it "regrets" the US statement and that it "does not reflect the reality on the ground." The ministry said that Rwanda's intervention in the DRC is "in line with its international obligations" and that it is necessary to protect Rwandan citizens and interests.

The US has called for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of all foreign troops from the DRC. The US has also imposed sanctions on Rwandan government officials and military leaders.

The conflict in the DRC is complex and has a long history. The fighting involves a number of armed groups, including the M23 rebel group and the Congolese army. The conflict has also been fueled by ethnic tensions and by the competition for control of the country's mineral resources.

The Rwandan government has said that it is committed to finding a long-term solution to the conflict in the DRC. The government has called for a negotiated settlement and has said that it is willing to withdraw its troops from the DRC if a ceasefire is reached.
